Matthew 8

“But He said to them, ‘Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?’ Then He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.”— Matthew 8:26

Matthew 8 shows Jesus’ authority in action. He heals the sick, drives out demons, and even commands the wind and waves. Each miracle is more than a display of power—it’s a revelation of who Jesus is: true God and true man, the Savior who brings peace in the midst of chaos.

When the disciples were caught in a violent storm, fear overwhelmed them. “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” they cried. Jesus’ response may surprise us: “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then, with a word, He calmed the storm. Their fear turned to awe: “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey Him?”

We, too, face storms—of worry, sickness, conflict, and doubt. But the same Lord who stilled the sea is with us. His Word still speaks peace. His cross still conquers fear. His presence still brings calm to hearts that trust in Him.

Questions:

  • Where do you most need to hear Jesus’ words, “Why are you afraid?”

  • How has Jesus brought peace into a “storm” in your life?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, You command even the winds and the waves. When fear threatens to overwhelm us, remind us that You are near. Calm our storms, strengthen our faith, and keep our eyes fixed on You. Amen.
