“Everyone then who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”— Matthew 7:24
As Jesus concludes the Sermon on the Mount, He leaves His hearers with a powerful image: two builders, two houses, and one coming storm. The difference between them isn’t what they heard—both heard Jesus’ words. The difference is what they did with those words.
The wise builder built on the solid foundation of Christ’s Word. When the rains came and the winds blew, the house stood firm. The foolish builder ignored Jesus’ words and built on sand—temporary, shifting, unreliable. When the storm came, the house fell with a great crash.
Life brings storms—suffering, temptation, loss, uncertainty. Jesus doesn’t promise a storm-free life; He promises a firm foundation. Those who build their lives on Him, who trust His promises and walk in His ways, will not be swept away. Christ Himself is our Rock—sure, unshakable, and faithful.
Questions:
What “storms” in life have tested your foundation of faith?
How can you continue to build on Christ’s Word this week?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are the solid rock on which we stand. Forgive us when we build our lives on the shifting sands of the world. Strengthen our faith through Your Word, and help us to trust You in every storm. Amen.
