Matthew 11

“Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”— Matthew 11:28

We find great comfort in these words of Jesus. In Matthew 11, Jesus invites the weary and burdened to come to Him and find rest. The people of His day were weighed down—by heavy religious expectations, by suffering, and by their own sin. Jesus offers what no one else can: true rest for the soul.

This rest is not simply a break from work or stress; it’s the deep peace that comes from being forgiven and loved by God. Jesus continues, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart.” A yoke joins two animals to work together. Jesus invites us to walk with Him, side by side, under His care and strength.

Jesus gives what we most need: grace. In Him, we can stop striving to earn God’s favor and rest in the finished work of the cross.

Questions for Reflection

  • What burdens are you carrying that you need to lay before Jesus?

  • How does His promise of rest shape the way you face the week ahead?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You invite all who are weary to come to You. We bring our worries, our failures, and our sins, and we lay them at Your feet. Give us the rest that only You can give. Amen.
